Oatmanville Prize for Non-Fiction

The Oatmanville Prize for Non-Fiction is an award for the best work submitted in the time period for originality, honesty, and quality of writing.

Winner of the Oatmanville Prize will receive publication by Avalon Park Press and 20 works of the published work.

At Avalon Park Press, we believe that the best stories are true. The human experience is vast and diverse, but great literature has the power to connect beyond borders, race, class, and gender.

The Oatmanville Prize will begin accepting online submissions of book length manuscripts on April 1, 2025 and the final date for submission will be July 1, 2025. The prize winner will be announced Fall 2025.

Eligibility

We aim to offer a top-tier, ethical book prize that will not just offer publication but also high quality design and step-by-step advising throughout the publishing and distribution process.

The Oatmanville Prize is open to any debut or secondary work of Non-Fiction by an author.

Authors cannot be previously self-published or have under contract more than one-full length book of non-fiction in English. This includes publication on Amazon or if the book has an ISBN.

Translations and co-authored books are ineligible for the award.

Authors must write in English.

Authors may be of any nationality as long as the work is written in English. Entrants to the Escarpment Prize are welcome to submit to other book prizes, however if your manuscript wins another prize, please notify us and withdraw your work.

Manuscripts can include work from previously published literary periodicals, however please include an acknowledgement page if applicable.

The following categories are ineligible for the prize:

  • Fiction

  • Poetry

  • Plays

  • Children’s Books

  • Practical manuals, guides

All entrants are asked to submit a $25 reading fee. All proceeds go towards publication of the winning work and maintenance of Avalon Park Press.
